Here’s Irene and Michael’s journey to owning a cafe in Randwick.
In 2008, Irene studied accounting at UNSW. She came back to China to work for Deloitte as an auditor. She had achieved this dream that her parents wanted for her. The overseas education and a high paying job back in her home country. In the beginning this seemed like a dream come true, jet-setting from city to city working with big named companies. But that was all a facade. In 2010 her and Michael had their daughter, Hilary. This corporate lifestyle was no longer as appealing for a new mother.
In 2013, Irene’s father was diagnosed with cancer. Luckily for their family he could be treated at the Prince of Wales Hospital. Growing up her father was always an entrepreneur. She always saw him as this fit and strong man. Cancer stripped away his physical abilities that he once had and the freedoms that he enjoyed. His chemotherapy was successful and in 2016 he was given the all clear. You see, Australia gave him another chance at life. The Prince of Wales Hospital gave Irene her father back. It hasn’t been an easy journey but it has been worth it. So what this all of this have to do with owning a restaurant?
Our family loves Australia and specifically the community in Randwick. At our most vulnerable time it was this community that helped us out, provided the support and the healthy options for food.
We gave up our careers because we want a better life for our daughter, we are striving everyday towards the Australian way. Owning a restaurant comes with it’s fair share of challenges but we know what we want to accomplish and with your help we can do it. We are truly grateful for the support from our community, brand partners and fans.
